Report from Hawaii

This is a shot of me in line waiting for food from one of just a few places serving food in Waikiki after the earthquake. We were without power all day with it being restored around 10PM.

The earthquake took place around 7AM but my brother and I slept right through it. I woke up around 9AM and noticed the power was out and later people hanging around the streets. It seemed weird but I didn't think anything of it. We were out all night so I just went back to bed. BTW clubs close at 4AM in Hawaii.

When we left the hotel my brother and I along with friends we made grabbed some loafs of bread and headed off to go surfing. It was an eerie day with rain and stormy weather, no power, and people not knowing what to do. For us it was a great day in the surf.

We actually had a lot of fun and wasn't worried about power. On the islands it's typical to shut off power when there's an emergency. The concern is if they turn on power after a quake there's the potential for fire. So they have to inspect each block before turning it back on.

Honestly, it made my day of vacation real. I'm not much into doing the tourist thing and all the artificial substance that come with it. Having a power outage puts the pause on all the bling from the city and allowed us to get back to what's real. I loved it!

Speaking of real, I spent all day over in North Shore. It's a much more natural experience than being here in the city. Beautiful beaches, muddy roads, shacks and all. It's great! We're spending the rest of our trip up there.

Thank God you're okay and not a crumbled piece of meat. And, glad to hear you didn't have to jump hot lava rocks either.
Keep wakiki awaykiki from tourists. The only thing worse than a tourist is the tourist next to him/her asking for," oh my gosh, like, where can I get a real hamburger around here?". Have a blast, while it lasts, you over worked, foxy surfer. K

Good to hear, the first thing that came to mind was "we need to start looking for a new bassist since RC's buried in rubble right now".

Laugh tomorrow.
