The bass action from last night's concert

We played our biggest show thus far last night with AC Myles Band and MoFo Party band at the Visalia Oaks' Ballpark's "Blues and Brews at the Ballpark".

There were folks enjoying 50+ flavors of beer and wine at the event. This is the forth year in a row for the event with the largest crowd yet.

If you missed it this year, make sure to join next year: BluesAndBrews.info

Bass Lessons

I found a bass (acoustic/electric) teacher in Fresno who's helping me with expanding my playing into jazz. His name is Kevin Hill and although he's been broad he now plays with various groups in Fresno.

Last night we worked on some new concepts for me based around Tritone Substitutions. We worked on Thelonious Monk's piece call "Blue Monk".

I'm pretty stoked about this. I'm thinking there's some jazz love I can add to the blues lines I'm playing with MBB. It should work since a lot our stuff has a big band swing feel.

3 shows and i've been worked

Over the weeked our band The Mercury Blues Band played 3 shows back to back. Friday night we played for something like 500 people on Main St, Visalia. It's the Visalia Blues, Beer and BBQ. It was such a great show! We came back out Saturday moring to play for a great cause:

"This Saturday, the band will headline a concert accompanying a bone marrow and blood drive for Marty at Central High School East from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also appearing: Deja Blues, Mercury Blues Band and Electric Grease Band." [Fresno Bee]

Got home from that to turn back around and play another gig at Visalia Brewing Co. Needless to say I barely made it though the night. I was so beat I slept until 3:30 sunday...

Good Times =)
